Baharat Spiced Flatbread

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

  • Olive oil for brushing


  1. In a small bowl, combine water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it's frothy.

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and Baharat spice blend.

  3. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it's smooth.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until it doubles in size.

  6. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or baking sheet inside.

  7. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Roll out each piece into a thin circle.

  8. Place the dough circles on the preheated baking stone or baking sheet and bake for about 5 minutes until they puff up and get a slight color.

  9. Brush the hot flatbreads with olive oil before serving.
