Fűszerkeverék - Tons of Flavor

INGREDIENTS: Black Pepper, Caraway, Carrots, Garlic, Onion, Paprikay, Parsley, Sea Salt

Let's face it, sometimes spice blends can have some pretty strange names. But perhaps one of the funniest and most difficult to pronounce is the Hungarian blend known as "Fuszerkeverek." Don't worry, we'll just call it "Fusz" for short.

So what's in this blend that makes it so delicious? Well, Fusz contains black pepper, caraway, carrots, garlic, onion, sweet paprika from Hungary, parsley, and sea salt. Each of these ingredients adds its own unique flavor and aroma to the blend, creating a delicious and versatile seasoning that is perfect for use in a wide variety of dishes.

Black pepper adds a spicy kick to the blend, while caraway, with its earthy and slightly sweet flavor, adds depth and complexity. The addition of carrots, garlic, and onion add a sweet and savory flavor that pairs perfectly with meats and vegetables. Sweet paprika from Hungary adds a smoky and slightly sweet taste, while parsley adds a fresh and herbaceous note. Finally, sea salt brings everything together and enhances the natural flavors of the other ingredients.

Fusz is Non-GMO, has No Preservatives, No Fillers, and No Wheat, making it a great choice for those with dietary restrictions. And despite its difficult-to-pronounce name, it's a staple in many Hungarian households and restaurants.

Here's a recipe card for a classic Hungarian Goulash using Fusz spice blend:

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • Sour cream, for serving

  • In a large Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  • Add the beef to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.

  • Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent.

  • Add the Fusz spice blend, tomato paste, and flour to the pot and stir to coat the beef and onion mixture.

  • Pour in the beef broth and water, and add the bay leaves, sugar, salt, and pepper.

  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours, or until the beef is tender.

  • Add the potatoes to the pot and continue cooking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through.
