Fire Island Loco Moco with Spicy Gravy

Servings: 4 Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1 tbsp Fire Island seasoning

  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 4 eggs (for frying)

  • 4 cups cooked white rice

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp Fire Island seasoning (for gravy)

  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Fire Island seasoning, panko breadcrumbs, egg, and soy sauce. Form the mixture into 4 patties.

  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked. Remove and set aside.

  3. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add the beef broth, whisking constantly, until the gravy thickens. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Fire Island seasoning.

  4. Fry the Eggs: In a separate skillet, fry the eggs to your desired doneness.

  5. Assemble the Loco Moco: Place a scoop of rice on each plate. Top with a beef patty, a fried egg, and a generous ladle of spicy gravy.

  6. Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped green onions and serve hot.
