One seasoning. Three methods. Endless reasons to make this again.

There’s a moment when orange, garlic, and heat come together just right. Not sweet. Not sharp. Balanced.
That balance doesn’t happen by accident.
Uppity Chicken seasoning lays the foundation first. Spice, warmth, and depth go directly into the meat before the sauce ever touches the pan. From there, orange brings brightness, garlic builds aroma, and a proper reduction turns everything into a glaze that clings instead of slides.
This is not just a recipe. It’s a method you can adjust depending on how you cook.
Base Recipe (Skillet Method – Best Overall Flavor)
Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 tablespoons Uppity Chicken seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup fresh orange juice (240 ml)
1 tablespoon orange zest
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Orange slices (for garnish)
Method
Season the Chicken
Pat chicken completely dry
Season both sides with Uppity Chicken seasoning
Let sit 10 minutes
Sear for Flavor
Heat oil over medium-high heat
Sear chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden
Remove and set aside
Build the Sauce
Lower heat slightly
Add garlic and cook 30–60 seconds
Add orange juice, zest, soy sauce, and honey
Stir and bring to a simmer
Reduce (Critical Step)
Simmer 5–8 minutes until slightly thickened
Sauce should lightly coat a spoon
Finish the Chicken
Return chicken to pan
Spoon sauce over top
Cook 8–12 minutes until 165°F (74°C)
Rest and Finish
Rest 3–5 minutes
Garnish with parsley and orange slices
Variation 1: Marinated Orange-Garlic Chicken (Deeper Flavor)
Additional Step
Combine:
Orange juice
Soy sauce
Honey
1 tablespoon Uppity Chicken seasoning
Add chicken and marinate:
Minimum: 30 minutes
Ideal: 2–4 hours
Cook
Remove from marinade and pat lightly dry
Follow the same searing and sauce steps
Why this works: The seasoning and citrus penetrate the meat instead of sitting on the surface.
Variation 2: Grilled Orange-Garlic Chicken (Market & Summer Ready)
Method
Marinate chicken (same as above)
Preheat grill to medium-high
Grill 5–7 minutes per side
Finish with Glaze
While grilling, simmer the marinade separately
Reduce until thickened
Brush onto chicken during last 2–3 minutes
Important: Always boil the marinade before using as glaze.
Variation 3: Weeknight Shortcut (Fast but Still Good)
Adjustments
Cut chicken into strips or bite-sized pieces
Cook fully in skillet first
Remove and make sauce
Return chicken and toss for 2–3 minutes
Dinner in under 25 minutes.
What to Serve With This
Rice or jasmine rice (best for soaking the glaze)
Israeli couscous
Buttered noodles
Roasted carrots or green beans
Warm flatbread
Spicekeeper’s Note
Most people skip the reduction step.
That’s why their sauce runs across the plate instead of clinging to the chicken.
Take the extra few minutes.
That’s the difference between something good… and something people ask you to make again.
