Rosemary Buttermilk Biscuits with Klein Deutsch Bavarian Seasoning

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon Klein Deutsch Bavarian seasoning

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk, plus more for brushing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and Klein Deutsch Bavarian seasoning.

  1. Cut in the Butter:

  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  1. Add the Buttermilk:

  • Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently with a fork or wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

  1. Knead the Dough:

  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.

  1. Cut the Biscuits:

  • Using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather the scraps, pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle again, and cut out more biscuits until all the dough is used.

  1. Brush with Buttermilk:

  • Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little buttermilk to help them brown nicely.

  1. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

  1. Serve:

  • Serve the biscuits warm, with butter, honey, or your favorite topping.
