Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 12–22 minutes
Yield: 4 scones
These tender, lightly sweet orange scones are elevated with Oak City Spice Blends’ The Sweet One, adding a warm whisper of cinnamon, vanilla, and baking spice that turns a simple breakfast scone into something truly enchanting.
Ingredients
Scones
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking powder
⅛ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons grated orange peel (zest)
1 teaspoon The Sweet One
3 tablespoons cold butter
1 egg
¼ cup orange juice
Sugar Crust Topping
1 teaspoon butter, melted
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
Instructions
Preheat & Prep
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, oats, baking powder, salt, orange zest, and The Sweet One. Stir well to evenly distribute the spice blend.
Cut in the Butter
Using a pastry blender or fork, cut in the butter until the mixture looks crumbly, with pea-sized bits of butter.
Add the Wet Ingredients
In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg, then whisk in the orange juice. Add the mixture to the dry ingredients and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
Shape the Scones
With lightly floured hands, form the dough into a 6-inch round on the prepared cookie sheet. Score the top into 4 wedges (do not cut all the way through).
Add the Sugar Crust
Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar.
Bake
Bake for 12–22 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
Serve
Cut along the score lines and serve warm—perfect with tea, coffee, or a soft orange glaze if you’re feeling indulgent.
Spicekeeper’s Note
The Sweet One brings a layered warmth—think cinnamon, vanilla, and soft baking spice—that pairs exquisitely with citrus. If you want to lean into the bakery-case fantasy, add a light orange glaze with powdered sugar and a pinch of The Sweet One for a finishing whisper of spice.
