Braised Cabbage and Sausages with Fűszerkeverék (Hungarian) Seasoning


  • 1 large head cabbage, shredded

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 apples, peeled and sliced

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 2 tablespoons Fűszerkeverék (Hungarian) seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 6 sausages (such as bratwurst)


  1. Cook the Cabbage: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened. Add the shredded cabbage and apples, and cook until the cabbage starts to wilt.

  2. Add the Flavors: Stir in the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ground cloves, Fűszerkeverék seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cover and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors are well combined.

  3. Cook the Sausages: While the cabbage is cooking, grill or pan-fry the sausages until they are browned and cooked through.
